Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Paradigm.

Speaker 2:

U podcast. Hello and welcome to the Paradigm U podcast, episode 156. Today we are talking to you about what happens when you start to implement changes in your life, and we are dedicating the entire month to a series all about subconscious reprogramming. And here's a cool little hint for you this does not have to be hard. So, in the interest of keeping it simple, so you can actually implement what we're doing, we are keeping this series short and sweet.

Speaker 3:

You're listening to the Paradigm U podcast. You're about to start transforming your life by growing your mind and expanding your paradigms. Here we'll cover real life topics, just like the stuff you'd share with a good friend. This podcast will serve up topics that weigh on our hearts and keep us up at night, whether it's navigating parenthood and becoming an adult, or wayfinding, personal development, marriage and money. You, my friend, are in the right place. I'm glad you're here.

Speaker 4:

All right well, welcome to the Paradigm U podcast. My name is April Marluski-Hydzinski and I am here today with the incredibly brilliant Lisa Sarnowski. How's it going, lisa?

Speaker 2:

I'm doing great, April. It's really great to be back here with you.

Speaker 4:

Thank you. Yes, well, we have a really exciting topic. We have been experiencing some fascinating aha moments within the Elevate Group that we are currently leading. We wanted to share some of those insights with you today. What do you think, lisa? Yeah, cool.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's absolutely cool, and especially what's cool is the stat you were just telling me before. So would you mind sharing with the listeners here what you were sharing? Yeah?

Speaker 4:

you bet. So, surprisingly, only 5% of our day-to-day actions and how we show up throughout the day are conscious decisions. That means 95% of all of our thoughts are connected through our subconscious. And the interesting thing, lisa, is that if only 5% of our thoughts are conscious and our decisions, our actions, our behaviors are conscious on a daily basis, it's fascinating to me how many people are spending their time, money and energy trying to focus on that and change that, when, at the end of the day, it's truly that 95% of your thoughts, your behaviors and your actions how you're showing up, that are led and driven by your subconscious. That really needs to be changed, that change from the inside out.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely. When you told me that statistic, that's exactly what popped out to me too is wow, as an industry, as a culture, we are so focused on do, do, do. And how can we really drive home this peak performance and efficiency and effectiveness? And at the end of the day, that's only going to move the needle. Maybe 5% for you, and maybe that's enough. But what also comes to mind is that picture of the iceberg, where there's that little bit on top and then boom, so much is below. And it's really when you can change your subconscious programming, that's when everything starts to accelerate. And I know that, april, you've talked so much about this with the listeners, and I know we have also talked a lot about identity and be-do-have. And this is really why it's important, I mean, for people to just visually see 5% of your day is conscious, 95% of your day you're on autopilot. It's just habit, it's just what you've always done, what you've always thought, what you've always believed. And imagine what could happen if you could really really understand and learn how to change that 95%.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, so today, we're going to talk a little bit about that, but we're only going to talk about a piece in particular. We want to talk about what happens when you start changing, because a lot of our listeners, lisa, are already having that change. They're starting to make and implement the changes that they see within their life as opportunity. We're hearing stories, we get comments and we get feedback from listeners on that, but what we're not actually talking about at this point is what happens when you are met with that resistance.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Any change that comes our way, you hit a wall eventually and it's because we are changing our state of being, truly how we operate, and that affects our vibration. It affects everyone around us. Our brain is created to keep us safe. It's actually a beautiful, beautiful thing. And yet if you actively want to change, there's going to be natural resistance from your brain because it wants to keep you in your little box that you're currently in and the people around you who also love you and are your biggest cheerleaders, right, your family, your friends, your co-workers, your partner. Once you start changing and vibrating at this different level, because you're actively working to change your subconscious mind, all of a sudden now you're a little different to them and that is a little bit unnerving because they are also human beings who are programmed to be safe and to understand routine and to be able to effectively know what's coming next. And once you start doing different things, it kind of shifts the energy a bit. Yeah, changes the equilibrium.

Speaker 4:

Absolutely. Yeah. You know, the interesting part about that is we could be working through some of those changes and wanting to do some of that subconscious reprogramming At our core, but if we're under any kind of stress and that is from external or internal but that external stress, so if that equilibrium is off, we may start feeling a stress that might actually put us back into that resistance of who. Do I want to change? Do I want to throw off that balance that I'm experiencing right now? Because this feels safe, this feels normal, this feels familiar, comfortable, yeah, but if we allow that change to, if we lean into that, it allows us to step into changing that ninety five percent which is actually going to move them the needle and change.

Speaker 2:

So so much, so much, what a powerful visual. Yeah, that the ninety five percent learning how to really lean into that and Learning what you need to work through that resistance, you know there is definitely a push, an opportunity to push yourself through and just constantly keep working on build a new habit, build a new habit. Build a new habit is all you know. We are just the culmination of our habits and if you can continue to focus on who you're striving to be and keep moving through that, that's where the power is for sure for you. I'm not saying it's, it's, you know, all fun and games for sure. I know I've.

Speaker 2:

I've felt the resistance numerous times. In fact, I remember, early on in the journey, looking at my husband and he was like what is going on with you? I never told you the same and I said I don't know. But here's what I do know. I do know that I love you and I want you to stay with me on the journey. I don't know where I'm headed, but I want you to. I really do want you here, and so that was a powerful moment for me, my probably twenty years ago now.

Speaker 4:

You know it's so interesting. I'm living all of those resistance moments right now and so I'm kind of chuckling because I had a similar conversation with my partner, because I'm being met with resistance. Please, I don't know if I've told you, but I am two weeks into a food detox because I had the realization that I just I was making some unhealthy and poor choices with food, as we've talked about. You are my food guru, by the way, for listeners. If you ever want to like, totally nerd out on like health, food and how to live a healthy lifestyle, talk to lisa sarnazki holy smokes this woman, she.

Speaker 4:

But I knew that I was not like Pulling my weight with regards to making healthy choices. I know a lot of that stems from my upbringing, as do most of our habits, because, yeah, a lot of how we show up is tied to our upbringing and how we were raised, and I knew that I didn't have a relationship with food and so I'm like you know what we're gonna do this. So a friend of mine is running a detox right now and I said, yeah, I'll sign up for it. So I am off sugar, I am off carbs, I am off dairy meat Holy cow. But here's the funny thing, this is where the resistance comes in. Lisa, I'm changing my habits, I'm completely pushing myself out of my comfort zone. So that familiar part and I'm challenging that 95% of my subconscious, which is April, just eats whatever is available. April eats leftovers, eat whatever. You know I eat like a five year old. That's my like running joke.

Speaker 2:

I just open, I just go. Yeah, you probably just go to the pantry. Whatever's there, right, I get it.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, so that's how I've lived my entire life, and so I caught myself. The last few days I'm feeling the resistance, as I'm chopping vegetables for way more time than I've ever spent meal prepping in my entire life. Hold on Right there, that is a huge win.

Speaker 2:

We've had so many conversations about meal prep. Congratulations. That's amazing.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, it is a win and I'm very excited about it and I'm very committed. And that's the key, I think, when you are making a conscious choice to change something is is how are you going to show up? But this is the funny part I'm committed to this. I'm like I am showing up 100%, let's do this. But I'm chopping these carrots. I'm like what am I doing? Why am I wasting all of this time? My house is a mess, I haven't gotten my kids bathed yet because I'm meal prepping, and so I had these moments where I'm like, oh, and so I felt that external, internal stress of like do I really want to do this? And it was really challenging that way of being for me, but I was like nope, I'm going to push through, because I am choosing to go on through this.

Speaker 2:

I'd say this like hurdle or this mountain, because I know, it's important for me, Absolutely oh my gosh, it's no joke and I hope that the listeners are really you know feeling that we're on it with you. You know we all have our areas that we're growing through and you know, for you, I'm going to be excited and I hope you'll share with me and the listeners in the future of what comes of this, because I equally think through the resistance is where you find the opportunities. Oh, this is a quick and easy meal, this is, this is the day I prep, or this is. I don't have to make that choice, I can find something else, or I can batch prep, or I can freeze your meal, or whatever. It is for you moving forward and for listeners.

Speaker 2:

You can't see, but April's eyes just got really wide like whoa. There's a lot of opportunity ahead and that's the beauty of it. I think if we can all lean into the resistance, that's where you'll find the gold nuggets. Right, it's like you're that book, two feet from gold. Just keep going, because two feet from now you're going to find your answer and it's going to actually be pretty easy to sustain when you keep working the subconscious reprogramming and you keep working the habit.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, that's what I'm working right now. Keep telling me I'm two feet from gold, Two feet so for listeners. If you're wanting to change an area of your life, I want to invite you to consider what that is. We've recorded plenty of podcasts on that topic of identifying those goals, figuring out what you want, mapping out your plan, etc. But it really does come down to that. 95% of your decisions, your behaviors, your thoughts are all driven by that subconscious. So what are the things that you are going to do to change that subconscious 95% mark? But equally, what are you going to do and how are you going to show up when you're met with the resistance?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and when you're in that resistance point, here's a question to consider is what am I so attached to? Because a lot of times what you're attached to is the past. It's not upsetting someone, it's not changing the dynamics of something, it's you know. And so ask yourself what am I so attached to here that you maybe are really struggling with pushing through to maintain what it is that you want in the positive habit that you're trying to implement.

Speaker 4:

Oh yeah, I'm going through it right now, real time. What am I attached to? I like simplicity, I want to go quickly, I don't like taking a whole lot of time to pause to meal prep, right, and so I'm realizing that that is what I'm attached to. My mind is on so many other things, so it's challenging me and I'm realizing that that's what I was attached to, for example, for this example. But for listeners. Going back to your point, lisa, what are you attached to and what are you willing to commit to? Are you?

Speaker 4:

willing to stay with whatever that attachment is. Is that more powerful than whatever the goal is that you want? Are you going to cave to that resistance or are you going to power through it? And it's not I should. They can't wait. Hold on a second. It's not power, because I don't want to mistake the word powered, like powering through it.

Speaker 2:

Well, I think it's personal power is how we're referring to it. Right, it's just really leaning into my personal power what I'm actively choosing to fight for for myself, out of love to myself, to actually change versus. You know, yes, this external I don't know negative connotation of power.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, oh gosh. Have I ever told you about the book power versus force? Yes, I started reading it. Holy cow, that is a game changer for listeners. If you are looking for a better understanding of how you can show up and for hints for parents, this is beautiful. Power versus force by I think it's Hawkins.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we can maybe find that to put in the show notes.

Speaker 4:

Lisa, as we wrap up today's episode, are there any other thoughts that you have with regards to the resistance that we're met with regards to subconscious reprogramming?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I would say that, you know. First of all, keep going. Well, view the resistance truly as a gift and a sign that you're on the right path. This is a time where your brain is actively going oh, they're reprogramming, oh, they're becoming someone new. So that's almost, you know, a blessing and a gift that you're given, and so pay attention to it, honor the awareness and then work through it. And here's the other part, and I'm going to say this not as a free pass, but to just remember that you're human and you may mess up, and that's okay. You get back up, you get back up. And the key is, with all resistance, you get back up faster and faster and faster and faster each time, because you're training yourself that, no, no, no, I am this new version of me, I am not the resistance that's holding me back. So that's, I guess, where I would focus.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, changing that belief system For sure. For sure.

Speaker 4:

Have you? Are you familiar with Abraham Hicks? Sure am. You know Abraham Hicks say that a belief is just a thought that we have on replay and we just keep thinking it. So good, right, so good. So, as you're going through your day, pay attention to those beliefs that you're having, pay attention to what's coming up and what ways you're being met with resistance, and look for the opportunities and the lessons that are nested within. Love it. So, on that note, I think that we've covered a pretty good chunk of the resistance, would you agree? I completely agree, all right. Well, on that note, we are going to wrap up today's episode. The caveat to this is, lisa, we have a couple of weeks ahead of us that we're going to be talking about different pieces of subconscious reprogramming, because we are doing a whole month on mindset, aren't we Whole series?

Speaker 2:

I believe. Yes, super exciting. So definitely stay with us, especially entrepreneurs, because we're going to be unpacking a lot of that. In fact, april and I are going to be doing our own business retreat coming up, and so we're both excited on what's going to come out of that for each and every one of you as well. Moving forward.

Speaker 4:

Yep, we will report back, just like we've told you in past episodes, we were advocating for you to carve out that time to plan out and retreat, so that you can have that active pause to map out what it is that you want. And we are doing the same thing, because we are walking alongside you on this journey. All right, on that note, it is closing time. Cheers to good karma.
